Check our Events Calendar for exhibitions, activities and events in and around Wollombi. The Valley offers many things to do, whether you're staying for a day or a week.

exploring the Watagan Mountains and Yengo National Park, which offer spectacular lookouts and walks, drives (2WD and 4WD) and picnic areas. The Great North Walk passes through the Watagans about 4km from Watagan Retreat - if you're not up to walking the 45km to the Hunter Valley, you can do a shorter section with views over the lower Hunter Valley.

wine tasting at the Wollombi Wine Trail vineyards, and a short drive to all the wineries that the Hunter Valley has to offer. We can organise or recommend wine tours that pick you up from and return you to Watagan Retreat or Wollombi Views (you can tailor these to visit the wineries and local attractions that you choose).

visiting local galleries including Undercliff Winery, the frequently changing exhibitions at the Wollombi Cultural Centre and the Laguna Art Show in September each year, a major annual event. During Spring each year the local vineyards hold "Sculpture in the Vines", which exhibits works from local artists and some of Australia's top sculptors.

playing golf at three golf courses close by: The Oaks (Cessnock, 4990 1633), Championship Cypress Lakes Golf and Country Club (Pokolbin, 4993 1800) and International Hunter Valley Golf and Country Club (Lovedale, 4991 4777)

shopping at the Wollombi market, held on Mondays of the long weekends of January, Easter, the Queen’s Birthday and October or check out the livestock at the cattle auctions (second Saturday of each month at 1pm) which are held in Wollombi.

or just relaxing in front of the fire or in the hammock at the cottage. Let the wildlife come to you - our resident possum (Watagan Retreat) or wombat (Wollombi Views) is often seen browsing around the house in the evening, wallabies are likely visitors, and native birds abound.
