About Wollombi

The Wollombi valley is 29km south-west of Cessnock and 140km north of Sydney (about 2 hours drive from the city). Located on the Great North Road, once the main route between Sydney and the Hunter Valley, the picturesque and historic valley is now a popular tourist destination.

Wollombi is the main town in the valley, and offers a range of dining options, including pub lunches, cafes and restaurants. The Wollombi gallery has frequent exhibitions displaying works by local artists - check our calendar for what's on. The general store provides all your basic grocery needs, and has EFTPOS facilities. Also in the village are a number of historic buildings, including the old courthouse (now the Endeavour museum), and craft shops.

A short drive from Wollombi, Laguna also offers a general store, which in the evenings becomes a wine-bar and meeting place for many locals. Also in Laguna is the Laguna Hall, venue for regular productions by the talented local Valley Artists.

The Wollombi Wine Trail showcases four local vineyards, which offer boutique and award-winning wines. Four kilometres from the village (towards Cessnock) is Lavender Gate farm, with lavender products for sale and a cafe onsite. The valley is bordered by several National Parks and state forests, including aboriginal engravings and remnants of the convict-built Great North Road.

To get to Wollombi take the Peats Ridge exit off the F3 freeway. This scenic "Wine Route" takes you through the Wollombi valley, and continues onto Cessnock and the central Hunter Valley.
